About GAMU
Every metropolitan city has a metropolitan university named after it to serve for the social economy. Metropolitan university, is deeply rooted in the metropolitan city, serving her with the global vision. Metropolitan university is closely networked with every aspect, and branches in various parts of the city. This is the new university development model in recent decades. Led by practical education and applied research, with close collaboration with the city government and industries, metropolitan university becomes the base and platform for integration of industrial practice and scientific research, education innovation and entrepreneurship.
Embracing the similar metropolitan university vision and mission, based on the principle of “friendship, openness, inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit”, the representative members of the Global Alliance of Metropolitan Universities (GAMU), are committed to promoting the openness and cooperation in higher education. We advocate the active exchanges and mutual learning among diverse cultures. We are devoted to the common prosperity of humankind through lifelong learning. We hereby adopt the GAMU Charter at the first Executive Council meeting held today in Macau, and reach upon the following consensus:

- GAMU shall constantly improve the collaboration mechanism and institutional interaction based upon the principle of thorough consultation and joint effort.
- GAMU shall establish the information platform to facilitate cooperation among the member universities, and among universities and cities under the framework of the GAMU charter.
- GAMU shall initiate the joint training and joint education programs, with the spirit of openness and inclusiveness. GAMU shall promote multiple forms of cooperation in talent development, expanding the scale of student exchange and cultivating excellent interdisciplinary talents with a global vision.
- GAMU shall organize various activities to enhance cultural dialogues and cooperation. GAMU shall carry out the collaborations in the fields of culture, science & technology, and knowledge contests to boost the exchanges among members and strengthen the friendship in the young generations.
- GAMU shall support multi-tiered and wide-range cooperation in scientific research based upon mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.
- GAMU shall establish joint research labs and international technology transfer centers and encourage the establishment of interdisciplinary and cross-cultural research centers among cities for the benefit of city development.
